                ADVOCACY AND NETWORKING
Addressing Domestic Violence Women in India are
not treated equal to the male counter-parts and the situation starts
further deteriorating in rural areas due to illiteracy, financial
dependence of women and addiction of men to alcohol. In the current
times, seeing so many distressing incidences on women related to
rape, molestation, dowry, acid attacks and domestic violence issues
it becomes extremely important to create awareness amongst women
regarding their rights. Stri Shakti constantly strives to educate
women on their rights via its "Self Help Groups" and even carries
regular advocacy programs. To understand the
causes and have a discussion amongst various stakeholders of the
society, Stri Shakti with the support of Nirnaya, Hyderabad
organized a symposium where media persons, politicians, advocates,
panchayat leaders, ward members, professors, social activists,
police officials, government officials & administration and SHGs
Group leaders were present. Altogether 100 members actively
            participated. They all reached a
            mutual consensus that until all the stakeholders join hands i.e;
society, government and family carry out the roles with inculcating
proper ethical values, moral education pedagogy and legal and
political support the issue cannot be addressed. Personal and social
awareness is the need of the hour with cooperation from local
administration and stricter legal actions against the offenders.

Celebrating International Women’s Day On the occasion of
            International Women’s Day i.e.; 8th March, 2014,a
symposium was being organized with the women SHG members. The SHG
women were made aware of their rights & entitlements and the role of
awareness to lead a better life. Women are coming forward in every
aspect of life and economic independence will help them to feel
equal and allow them take decisions for themselves. The SHG women are
aware and are moving forward now. They can run their business
smoothly and also are taking better care of their families.
             The
situation is improving and women now-a-days are advocating for their
rights and are intolerant towards violence and discrimination. They
should further come forward and let everyone realize their true
            potential.

NETWORKING & LINKAGE PROGRAMS:Government has initiated several welfare schemes and programs to
support the marginalized sections of the society. But,
unfortunately many in need still are unable to benefit from these
programs and even are unaware of the benefits available for them.
And, if few people know about the schemes they do not know whom to
approach and how to use it.
 Stri
Shakti initiated the awareness drive where the villagers are made
aware of the government welfare schemes available for them. They
are educated on it and are also provided handholding support and
guidance to seek the benefits. Many villagers are utilizing the
benefits now and many are still in process to receive it.
